Investigating salience and ideologies in Greater Boston: A sociophonetic analysis of liquid variation

Abstract
This study examines how liquid variation and other sociolinguistic variables interact among Spanish speakers in Greater Boston, with special attention to language ideologies and attitudes. Preliminary findings show that salient features like liquid variation persist across generations rather than converge with English, reflecting how speakers use language to maintain cultural identity and linguistic authenticity.
